Our Father
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written…
(Psalm 139:14, NKJV)
Have you ever found yourself surrounded by people and yet you felt invisible? Maybe not yet, but there are times when we are going through difficult times and we are absorbed in our own thoughts and struggles. In such moments, there is a strong sense of loneliness deep within, a loneliness which makes us know that no one else can truly understand what is happening in our lives. An example is when one loses a loved one and the pain is unexplainable. There could be people around them, some will be trying to condole with them, but the individual is going through his own journey down memory lane or is in a holding position where everything feels numb. A reflection of this brings me to the realization that, the sense of loneliness does not come from the physical surrounding but from something deeper within, a desire to be understood, touched, felt at a heart level and not at the physical level. The gap between what we desire and what we have around us cannot be filled by a human hand, it is far deeper than man can touch, it is a void that we do not know how to fill. The connection we crave for is one that assures us that we are seen, and that we are not alone in our situation.
Our reference verse is usually given to remind us that we are not unknown to God. It really does not matter how we found ourselves on earth but He who created us takes the time to reassure us that He has always known us. What we know about our toddler stage is what others have told us about ourselves, yet God goes to a time even before we were born and He says that He saw us. He did not just see our unformed substance or bodies, but He also determined what our lives would be like including how long we live. Beloved, this understanding is unfathomable, beyond what we can dare to imagine or think, it is mind-boggling. When we try to reach this level of knowing, we can only bow in awe and wonder of this God and Father who has such knowledge about us, information beyond our very ability. In giving us this assurance, God steps forth as the Father who has always been there and never leaves. More often than not, fathers are seen as symbols of authority, security and identity. Admittedly, some have failed this expectation, after all, they too are human. However our Father, our God has never failed, He is faithful to His word and promises for our lives. Beloved, in those moments when no one else seems to be available to help you, our Father says that He knows you and where you are at in the journey of your life.
God has revealed Himself through His word as a loving Father who is continually present in our lives, He neither sleeps nor slumber (Psalm 121: 3-4). His watch over us is a guarantee, may we lean in to Him in those moments when we are hidden from others. Tommy Walker sang the song, “He knows my name”. The lyrics of this song by divine revelation bring us to a warm appreciation of how close God is to us especially in moments of brokenness. Beloved, regardless of what you may be facing or will face in future, lean in to the loving Father who formed you and who knows your every tear. We have a Father who loves us and cares for us. I pray this gives you strength in Jesus Name. Amen.
Thoughts:
Have you ever had such moments in your life?
How have you dealt with them?
How have you experienced the Father’s love in such times?
