Perfect Love
…you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you…
(Isaiah 43:4, NKJV)
There is something beautiful about belonging and being valued. Watching a child being told that they are loved shows us the innocent expression of appreciation. The child is happy, some dance around proudly while others look down shyly. In whichever way the child responds, there is an undeniable communication of a warm feeling generated in the heart. As parents and guardians, we are encouraged to keep affirming our children for the assurance that they are loved plays an important part in raising their confidence as they grow. Acceptance is one thing that we are desire and it gives us a positive self-esteem. This is not the same for a child or a person who does not feel affirmed, they might appear successful in the public eye but broken on the inside. May the Lord help us to be those who build each other up and not break them.
Our reference verse by Prophet Isaiah speaks to our innate need to be loved and accepted. The fact that this is a statement by God, carries a greater weight as it gives us an assurance of safety and protection. We might have grown up with a feeling of not being ‘enough’ but God tells us that we are precious in His sight, we are therefore honoured and loved. This is a state of comfort and guarantee that all of us would welcome. With all that goes on in our lives, at times leaving us feeling so beaten up, we can always look up to our Father who calls us precious, honoured and loved. I do not know about you, but I do relish this promise by my Father. We note that there is always a reason why people esteem others, and if by any chance the reason is no longer valid, the regard and honour given before is withdrawn. This is not the same with our God, He loves us just as we are. His word tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Then we see Jesus calling us His friends and no longer servants (John 15:15). This has nothing to do with what we have done but comes from the purity of God’s heart of love (1 John 4:10). Our position of being loved and honoured by God is all about who He is and we are recipients of this great love.
When we take in the revelation of God’s love for us, we settle in peace even when things do not seem to be as we would wish them to be. In moments when we feel downcast and struggling, we are reminded in His word that in His mercy, God heals our broken hearts and binds up our wounds (Psalm 147:3). He does not leave us when we are down but sits with us to help us stand again. We might be the ones who got ourselves into trouble and we wonder how we could go back to His love, beloved, may we always know that His love for His children is a constant. When we are in trouble, we know that He remains merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love (Psalm 103:8). There is nothing which can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39) nothing indeed can make God not love us, we are the only ones who can pull away from Him. Beloved, even when we face situations in life which make us doubt ourselves, may we find our comfort and peace in the surety of God’s word, that to Him, we are loved and are precious. When this becomes the premise upon which we live, we shall gain the strength for another day for we know He will never leave us nor forsake us. Regardless of what else is going on around you, remember, you are specially loved, honoured and highly esteemed by the King almighty. Rest in that place of undiluted steadfast love.
