Dignified Despite Divorce

I went through divorce after 31 years of marriage.  As a believer and a woman of faith, I had never seen my marriage ending in divorce.  I found myself sitting in a space of rejection, pain, anger and shame.  Seeking to find myself again through the darkness I experienced, my one desire was to connect with a place of acceptance and belonging.  I was in a place that no human being could lift me from and I am eternally grateful to God alone for His counsel.  Deep within, God was gently doing some work in my heart which others could neither understand nor contribute to.

Navigating my new status especially within faith based settings opened my eyes to the continued reminder that confronts the divorced and the alienation that follows them.  One would expect that the community of faith is where we find unconditional love and acceptance, yet the structures established struggle with finding a place for divorced individuals.  With time, I have understood that the faith-based systems do not also know how to appropriately support their members suffering the pain of divorce.  This is an area of challenge for the church which needs to be a place of healing for its injured members.

Colossians 2:10 was my anchor verse “I am complete in Christ”.

In August 2025, I published a book to speak hope to women and men going through divorce within an African context.  This book is borne from an integral pivot in my own life.

Embracing my identity in Christ has changed my outlook to the status that I now live, allowing me to pick my broken pieces.  It is from this position that my book speaks of being dignified through and despite the divorce.  I acknowledge that divorce has a way of taking away one’s respect and value in the eyes of others, a loss of self-esteem, a place of indignity but, I confidently say - it need not be so.

Beloved, in Christ who is our identity, our essence and worth in God is not diminished by the happenings of life, the gifts and empowerment of God in your life still remain within you.

Despite the struggle and pain, arise to the fullness of who God has called you.

This is the message of the book
“Dignified despite Divorce”  - You ARE whole in Christ.

This Book is available in Amazon and Nuria Bookshop in Nairobi.

It is a journey answering to a call of impact and legacy.
